CNN Takes The Fight To Trump

Yet another member of Trump’s A-Team, Jeff Sessions the Attorney General of the United States, has been caught up by the growing take-no-prisoners flash flood known as Russiagate.

For Dodgy Russians fill in Benghazi and Hillary Clinton; a successful attack line has been drawn against the Don that will follow him right up to the next presidential election. The pressure is already building and CNN is proudly leading the charge against the Don’s floundering administration.

CNN is of course the globally ubiquitous news organisation the Don recently petulantly blocked from a news conference at the White House after frequently dismissing CNN as a shameless perpetuator of fake news.  The Don may have won the day, for 24 hours or so, but a week later CNN is relentless battering him from dawn to dusk with negative coverage.

When the Trump administration gave vent to the worst of its comical bull-riding machismo by stomping on the media it displayed the worst possible short-termism. CNN has four long, long, long years to pay this administration back in kind and we already have enough evidence to suggest CNN can throw a punch and roll around on the ground with the best of them – if need be.

One week after the Don huffed and puffed and tried to blow CNN’s meticulously built house down look what has happened. The Don picked a fight but it was CNN who rang the bell. Someone threw Jeff Sessions into the ring while he wasn’t even looking. CNN couldn’t be held back as it gleefully leapt off the ropes and went all Jack Johnson on one of white America’s purported heavyweight sluggers. Jeff Sessions, one of the Don’s most cherished besties and purportedly one of the most powerful men in America, didn't survive three days of CNN’s sugar sweet, exquisitely timed right hooks to his wrinkled, pale Alabama chin.

Before he could say “Please stop beating up on me, I don’t know any Russians,” one more time, Sessions was carried out of the ring on a makeshift stretcher and driven back to the White House in a very tiny ambulance. Before the ambulance reached the Don’s temporary hangout it was turned away and was ordered to drive all the way back to Session’s creaky old Alabama plantation.

By attacking CNN the Don insulted an organisation packed with highly intelligent, hugely talented, highly resourceful professionals whose fundamental skill is composing informative stories for an American and global audience. By insulting the morals and integrity of CNN, Trump has in effect turned a world-class media organisation into a committed enemy combatant.

There’s four more years of this street-alley smack down to go.  The indications are this is going to be a very brutal punch up. After this week I’m already getting a very strong itch on where to place my money.
