Harvey Weinstein's Bottomless Well Of Hatred
Weinstein’s sole intention, once he met a woman, was to coerce her into an activity that led to his own exclusive sexual-satisfaction.
Weinstein met many woman from many nations, ethnic backgrounds and ages; their personality and physical characteristics were entirely unimportant to him. In Weinstein’s mind, these females, were all the same non-person, who only existed to pleasure him.
When Weinstein saw these women on the front cover of a popular magazine or watched them collect an award at a prestigious ceremony or listened to them give a speech at a world-famous political institution or pose with their husbands and children outside a major sporting event, what was he thinking about them? You’re great? You’re special? Or was he thinking of the time and the location he abused them. And what were these lauded, appreciated and admired women thinking when they saw Weinstein applauding them?
Every now and then a celebrity magazine publishes a tale of a celebrity behaving badly on a movie set - turning up late, making unreasonable demands, firing crew who look them in the eyes. The cruel behavior often involves the public demeaning and humiliation of another human being, actions that strip a human being of any sense of empowerment and status; it’s now hard not to see this behaviour as a sad part of a vicious, repetitive cycle of abuse.
The past few weeks have exposed a showbiz industry built on a culture of abuse and rape. No matter how much spotlight is cast upon the industry, be it through the scandals of Jimmy Saville, Rolf Harris and now Harvey Weinstein, this still feels like the proverbial tip of the iceberg.
